Even a tea purist can not deny the convenience of the tea bag. THANK YOU, Thomas Sullivan for giving us one less item to wash up after tea time.

Sullivan was a tea merchant that used small, silk bags to send tea samples to customers. Folks thought the sample was meant to be used directly in the cup and, accidentally, the “tea bag” concept stuck. The silk bag was eventually changed to gauze. Large bags were used for pots of tea; small bags for individual cups.
